If you have experience with working in conflict regions and/or conflict resolution, please take in consideration participation in the Volunteering in Conflict Areas Seminar that will take place in Belgium, near Brussels between 2nd and 9th May 2008.
Following the strategic plan of the movement (2004-2009), SCI organizes a seminar, related to SCI’s working in conflict areas.
The main aim of the seminar is trying to develop a strategy or guidelines how SCI as peace-organization can act in areas where direct violent conflicts (can) appear or already have taken place. We received a grant from the European Youth Foundation (EYF) for this seminar.
Some key-questions of the seminar:
1. What are (pre-, post-) conflict areas where SCI should work in?
2. What can SCI do and what can SCI better leave to other organizations?
3. How (in what way) should SCI work in conflict areas to build peace in an effective way?
4. How should SCI prepare volunteers to work in conflict areas?
We would like to encourage all people who play an active role at national and/or international level in SCI and /or in partner organizations to apply.
More specifically, this seminar’s target group include staff members, members of statutory bodies within SCI and its working groups and activists involved in training activities in their organizations.

Deadline for all applications is 31st January for Noneuropeans and 11th of January for European participants.
