Group EVS - Interreligious dialogue messengers in Poland

This summer Jeden Swiat - SCI Poland has organized Group EVS project where four volunteers had chance to meet with religious groups in Poznan. For three months volunteers from Armenia, Georgia, Russia and Italy acted as promoters and multipliers of tolerance and got to see “how the lack of first-hand contact with real people can easily create stereotypes in our mind.”

Volunteers met with representatives from Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Catholic and Mormon religion and created non formal educational activities which promote interreligious dialogue. They were later on used in workshops with groups coming from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds throughout Poland.

The results of a project will be compiled in a DVD. Activities were also documented with a blog http://www.messengersofinterreligiousdialogue.blogspot.com/.

You can find information and pictures about the project also on Jeden Swiat webpage http://www.jedenswiat.org.pl/index.php?id=37,0,0,1,0,0.

This project was financed by Youth in Action program.

                        More about the project:

This project focused on the meaning and importance of interreligious dialogue in today's society. In fact we believe that as a source of value, an element of identity and cultural affiliation, religion plays nowadays a central role in public life. European society being increasingly pluralistic, efforts should be made in the sense of developing intercultural dialogue and learning.

Interreligious dialogue need to be targeted within this efforts if one is to combat efficiently the consequences of religious intolerance such as growing influence of right wings parties and neo racist ideologies, anti religious feelings from civil society, unfair media coverage of certain religious groups, increasingly legal restrictions on minority religion,

This project addresses the fundamental right of every human to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. We aim at activating youth to reflect on this issue by defining, fostering and encouraging dialogue.
