Peace Education Seminar in Poland 2007

Non Violent Communication 25th Nov – 2nd Dec

One of the specific objectives in the strategic plan of SCI is to develop an internal and external communicationplan.  Another one is to enhance the level  of peace-education within SCI.

Based on the last mentioned objective SCI just run a training about  NVC (Non Violent Communication) that is a method of communication, based on feelings and needs.

How do we deal with anger? How can we give appreciation? How do we deal with conflicts?

To answer all these question participants of international Peace Education Seminar met in Puszczykowo, between 25th November and 2nd September 2008.

Training was led by Towe Widstrand, certified NVC trainer from Sweden and preparatory team from SCI (Elzbiera Zorawska, Grazyna Pulawska and Zaneta Gozdzik Ormel supported by Wojtek Szczepanik).
Non violent communication is a method of communication, based on feelings and needs, rather than judgement, blame and praise. The trainer  from outside, Towe Widstrand from the center of Non-Violent Communication, introduced two roles that people can perform in communication:  wolf and giraffe. She even had different puppets and other tools to emphasize the roles.
Challenging part of the seminar was to discover what role NVC can play in SCI. The center for Non-Violent Communication itself is implementing a model of socalled sociocracy, another model for organising the organization,  another model for decisionmaking. It might be an idea to explore.

Last, but not least, the social and free time were really fine and well organized,  by the participants, as well due to the great support of One World Association (OWA Poland). People felt sad to leave, to see goodbye.
